CVL is the brand of Sistemas Valle Leniz, a lock manufacturer based in Aretxabaleta (Gipuzkoa). Its range includes locks for wooden, metal and aluminium doors, rim locks, security cylinders and emergency exit and fire door devices. For example, its 1970N model is a mortice lock for wooden doors with a euro profile cylinder. On the door itself, what matters most is the type of door and how the lock is fitted.

- The material of the door leaf, wood, metal or aluminium, and whether the profile is narrow.
- Whether you still have the original keys and how many copies are in use.

Which part to identify on a door with CVL
On aluminium or narrow profile doors, the lock is usually long and slim; on wooden or metal doors it may be a mortice or a surface-mounted lock. The cylinder is the replaceable part the key goes into, the escutcheon covers it on the outside and the strike plate receives the bolt in the frame. A lock bearing the CVL name does not confirm that the cylinder or the other parts come from the same manufacturer.

Why is a CVL lock on an aluminium door assessed differently?
Because the aluminium profile leaves little space and the lock has to fit that narrow cut-out. That limits the replacement options and makes it more important to check the door before suggesting a part.
Does replacing the cylinder of a CVL lock make sense if there are key copies I cannot account for?
It is usually the option considered in that case, because the old keys no longer work with the new cylinder. First we check that the lock is in good condition; if the mechanism is also failing, we tell you so you can decide.
