Services related to your ABUS enquiry
With ABUS we carry out three jobs: cylinder replacement, escutcheon installation and opening doors fitted with an ABUS cylinder. Door opening is explained on its own service page.

What we do with ABUS hardware
Cylinder and door protection
ABUS is a security manufacturer that has been operating since 1924. As well as cylinders and door protection, it makes padlocks, bike and vehicle locks and electronic systems. Here we only deal with the cylinder and its escutcheon on doors: we do not work on padlocks or electronic locks. The ABUS name is usually engraved on the face of the cylinder or on the escutcheon.
Assessing the job and its limits
To replace an ABUS cylinder or fit an escutcheon, we measure the cylinder on each side of the door, how far it projects and the thickness of the door leaf. A door with an ABUS cylinder is assessed like any other door opening: we cannot guarantee that the cylinder can be kept or that there will be no damage.
Your options before you agree to the work
We explain whether you need a new cylinder of the same size, an escutcheon compatible with that cylinder or both, and give you the price before we start. We only mention features that appear in the ABUS documentation for the specific model.

Useful information before asking about ABUS
Before asking for advice about an ABUS part, it helps to check these points.
- Where the ABUS name appears: on the face of the cylinder, on the escutcheon or only on the key.
- Which part is causing the problem: the cylinder, the escutcheon around it, the key or another part of the door.
- What you notice: the key is stiff, the escutcheon moves, the cylinder sticks out or the door will not open.
- The type of door: wooden, metal or armoured.
- Whether you still have all the keys and the card that came with the cylinder, without sending photos of them.

Identifying your ABUS model
Details that help identify the hardware
The name or reference engraved on the face of the cylinder or on the escutcheon, the approximate size of the cylinder and the type of door. Do not send the key security card or close-up photos of the keys.
Compatibility and availability
With the reference, we check the size and compatibility with your door and escutcheon in the ABUS documentation, and confirm that we can source the part before giving you the price.

Why you should not choose an ABUS part without checking the door
Knowing that a part is ABUS does not in itself tell you which cylinder or escutcheon will fit. Compatibility depends on the cylinder size on each side, the thickness of the door leaf, the lock and escutcheon already fitted and the condition they are in. That is why we make our proposal after checking the whole assembly, not just from the brand name.

What to clarify before replacing an ABUS part
- What do you want to solve: a key that fails, a damaged escutcheon or copies of the key you no longer control?
- Are you looking to repair what you have, replace the part or improve the protection of the cylinder?
- Does the door have any limitation, such as a thin leaf or mouldings around the cylinder?
- Can you read any reference on the face of the cylinder or on the escutcheon that would help identify it?

What to confirm in your ABUS quote
The price depends on the cylinder or escutcheon model, its size and the fitting; for a door opening, on how the door is locked. VAT is charged on top, the price depends on the time of the service and, outside Torrevieja, a travel supplement applies. We give you the price before we start.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about ABUS
What is checked when combining an ABUS cylinder with an escutcheon?
That the cylinder does not project further than the escutcheon allows, that the key turns without catching, that the fixings suit the thickness of the door and that the whole assembly fits the lock. We confirm this by measuring the door.
Can you work on any ABUS model?
No. We work on ABUS door cylinders and escutcheons and open doors fitted with an ABUS cylinder. We do not work on ABUS padlocks, bike and vehicle locks or electronic systems, and each model is confirmed by its reference.
Which photos help identify my ABUS hardware?
A front-on photo of the cylinder or escutcheon where the brand can be read, another of the door edge with the door open and another of the whole door. Do not send the security card or close-up photos of the keys.
How is the quote for ABUS confirmed?
With the reference and the photos, we give you the price before we start, with VAT on top. If anything changes when we measure the door, we explain it and do not continue without your agreement.
Does this page mean you are an official ABUS service?
No. This page helps you identify ABUS hardware, but it does not imply any official link, authorised distribution or certification with the brand.
How can I tell whether the ABUS part is the cylinder or the escutcheon?
The cylinder is where the key goes in; the escutcheon is the outer plate that surrounds it and is fixed to the door. If the name appears on the plate around the keyhole, it is most likely the escutcheon, although the cylinder may also carry its own marking.
Why is knowing my cylinder is ABUS not enough to replace it?
Because within the same brand there are cylinders of different sizes and types, and the new one has to fit your lock and your escutcheon. That is why we measure the cylinder and check the whole door before proposing anything.
